A message from the Transplantation Committee

Dear colleagues,
It was a great success gathering the Arab leaders in transplantation and pathology in 2007 and 2008. The Organization and content of these meetings encouraged the division of transplantation in Arab Society of Nephrology and Transplantation (ASNRT) to continue this activity in January 2009.
The support from the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and Tissue Transplantation Society (TTS) for the first time will add more importance to this meeting. In addition, the help of the pharmaceutical companies to organize our meeting in indispensable, and I thank them for their support.
I hope such scientific activity will be the basis for our solidarity in Medicine and may help the young fellows understand better the real problems facing transplantation in the Arab world, as well as focus on the challenges in renal pathology.

Chairman, Transplantation Committee, ASNRT

A message from the Nephropathology committee

Dear colleagues,
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the second nephropathology meeting conducted under the ASNRT.
The Nephropathology committee was established in the first nephropathology meeting held in Aswan in January of 2007. Tasks assigned to the committee included conducting EQA in nephropathology service in Arab countries as well as promoting nephropathology education among junior doctors in pathology and nephrology.
During this meeting we are conducting a one day pre-congress workshop in basic nephropatholgoy. This activity targets junior pathologist and nephrologists interested in this field of work. The intention is to introduce such junior colleagues to some of the practical aspects of nephropathology. Details of the workshop will be available from the ASNRT web page.
We are also involved in supervising and conducting the clinicopatholgical correlation sessions (CPC) during this congress.  This year we have carefully planned the CPC activity to cover about 20 cases of native and transplant renal disease. We take this chance to call upon all colleagues  to contribute cases to the CPC. We have published guidelines for case submission on the ASNRT web page. A CD containing the cases will be prepared and will be available to collect towards the end of the congress (for details please enquire during the congress)
In addition we have a poster-type Test Your Knowledge” activity displayed during the congress in a side room. Ten posters will contain 50 images from a wide range of sources including: clinical nephrology, radiology, immunology, histopathology etc each followed by an MCQ.   Prizes will be given to those who answer questions on images. (Details will be available during   congress).
Finally, on behalf of our committee I wish you a happy travel to lovely Aswan yet again, and I am certain the congress will impart such memories to all of you, you would keep for a long time.

Dr. Issam Francis. FRC Path
Chairman, Nephropathology committee, ASNRT
